Here is it is, the best 18650 on the market for ebikes, the Panasonic GA in the newest available case which gives you an incredible 17.5ah in a bottle mounted case.

Panasonic GA Cells

This pack is crammed full of the highest quality cells in the industry. 65 cells is a 13s5p configuration. That means 5 rows of 13 to give you the voltage and amp hour you need.

Ultimate Long Range in a very small size

We designed these packs using the newest and greatest Chinese enclosure, but filled them with quality name brand 18650 cells utilizing the latest battery chemistry to get the highest possible power density. This means despite these packs small size and light weight, they will get you tons and tons of range. These packs have more amp hours than any commercial ebike, who skimp and use generic cells which are known for being low power density and short battery life.  In fact we so disbelieve in generic cells, we are not even offering them as an option. We only offer quality cells in our packs not cheap no name cells like most everyone else does.

Cell Choice

This pack is crammed full of the highest quality cells in the industry. Panasonic GA 3500mAh cells.  65 cells is a 13s5p configuration. That means 5 rows of 13 to give you the 48v and 17.5amp hour rating this pack has.

This pack is made up of the most exciting (and expensive) battery cells on the market the Panasonic GA (also known as the Sanyo GA) which offers the highest available capacity in an 18650 cell (3400-3500mah) which until now was offered by the Panasonic NCRB. But where as the NCRB was rated less than 5 amps discharge per cell, these cells are rated at 10amps which is powerful enough for almost all ebike applications

Compatibility

Regarding Amps: These packs will easily put out 30amps (1500 watts) and 50amps for 12 second bursts.

More than likely your controller is less than 30amps and then you don't have to worry since your controller will only take the amps  from the battery what it needs. You cannot fry a controller by selecting a high performance  battery with too many amps. Voltage however, you need to be careful with.

Regarding voltage: This is a 13s (48 volt) battery, which means it should be easily compatible with any 48v kit or ebike on the market no matter what the manufacturer might say (they would prefer that you pay more and  buy their proprietary batteries).  Read this article on buying an ebike and not getting ripped off.

Mounting

Most people mount this battery to the downtube of their frame (where the water bottle usually goes) but it’s very versatile where it can be mounted. You could rear pack mount it or even put it in a backpack.

Because of its hard plastic enclosure you don't need to worry about padding this battery like you would on one of our shrink wrapped batteries.

This is a very easy to mount battery. It has a mounting bracket that will mount to most water bottle screw holes in the frame. If not you can drill threaded holes into your frame to accommodate it. Or you can use zipties etc.  Once the bracket is installed it's a breeze to take the battery on and off, so you can have extra batteries that you carry on your ride that would easily fit in a backpack or on the racks on your bike.

(Read our article on mounting an ebike battery for more information).

Extra Features

This pack has a lot of niceties to add to its usability. These features include:

  • USB charger can charge your cell phone for weeks (biggest battery bank charger ever)

  • Solid plastic enclosure to protect your cells from being banged up

  • On/off switch

  • Lighted battery gauge on the battery lets you know how much charge you have left

  • Quick release so you can easily take on and off your bike

  • Key locks securely locks the mount to your bike

  • Versatile mount that can be screwed or zip tied to your bike.

Killer Whale - Excellent Pack - Heavy

First off - Luna Cycle Rocks! You will always be my first choice. I have been using the killer whale pack for almost five months now here in my cold Ontario winter. The first week that I had this pack I dumped my bike over at about 10km/hr, never got hurt just a bit embarrassed :) I have this battery mounted on my down tube and the bracket holding the battery broke off. This is a very heavy battery for the plastic mounting it comes with. I now have this battery glued, taped, and strapped on permanently. Looks a bit like crap now, but I still love this battery. Apart from being too heavy to trust the mounting it comes with it is a sweet battery just the same. I am using it with the BBSHD on a surly fat bike. I can easily go 45 km on one charge in the warm weather. That said it does have voltage sag issues. The first 10 - 15 km No troubles. After that you need to milk the juice out of this thing but it does get you there, and it does go far...I have found that it works excellent down to -20 Celsius. A fully charged battery will run at a lower voltage at this temperature and have some quick to sag troubles if you push it too hard, but the dependability of this battery makes up for this when you get home safe after a long day at work. The USB charge port is as advertised. Mines worked before I dumped the bike and I have not used it since. I think next winter I will opt to mount this monster pack on the back rack, and make sure it is inside a warm battery bag. I still have to give this sucker 4 starts. Thanks again Luna for being excellent in what you all do. Robert

Where are the fuses ?

Well on this battery design, they are not externally accessible. So you are going to have to break open the case if you ever blow a fuse, due to a short or whatever. Incredible that they don't provide externally accessible fuses. This is like the cheap chinese stuff you buy, that the chinese never stand behind. As always, buyers beware.
