This motor shares the great fundamental engineering of the BBSHD, but utilizing larger and more robust components, including it's motor core. The Ultra Max was designed to be more reliable and handle more hot-rodding than the popular BBSHD conversion system.
Bafang designed this drive with the intention of increasing the power in the future, knowing it will easily handle it. It is only 2 pounds heavier than the BBSHD (15 pounds vs 13 pounds) resulting in a much bigger motor and better heat dissipating qualities.
The motor includes a built in torque sensor (rather than a cadence sensor) for the ultimate in pedal assist. Unlike most of the underpowered torque sensing drives made for the 250W Europe market, this drive also includes a thumb throttle for those days you just don't feel like pedaling.
This motor is for frame builders only. You can get an optional aluminum mounting plate that you can weld a frame out of, or you can just design your own. We can't wait to see what you come up with (send us pictures).
Much like battery spot welders have proliferated around the USA, we are hoping the availability of a bad ass raw motor like this will inspire a new generation of bike builders, and inspire some new frame creations.
Luna has custom-tuned the drive characteristics, including the torque sensor, to make it both powerful and smooth.

If your bike has one of the low powered Bafang integrated motors this is NOT a drop-in replacement as the mounting plate is different.
For the bike to be compatible with this motor it must be built for G510.

Additional notes: The spider (front chainring) this comes with is built with offset for fatbike frames. Non-fatbike chainrings will be available at a later date.
