*****

Hydraulic brakes are a real nicety on any electric bike, and at Luna Cycle we believe stopping fast is as important as going fast.

These are hydraulic Ebrakes which will also automatically cut power to your motor when you tap on the brakes.

They do not need constant adjustment like regular mechanical brakes do.

They require very little hand pressure to activate, you can stop with two fingers easily even if your fingers are wimpy.

These brakes are made by Shimano and are a big upgrade to the cheap Tektro brakes the Stock Sondors comes with.

They have the correct connectors to plug in with your existing ebrake connectors on your wiring harness and are cut to the right length for the sondors.

You can choose between left brake on the front (standard for bikes) or left brake on the rear ( standard for motorcycles). Please choose when ordering.

Especially if you are going to go with performance upgrades,  upgrading to hydraulic brakes is a good idea.

To swap these bikes is a cinch since they use the Bafang connectors (coming from your controller) and the hydraulic lines are cut to fit the Sondors Ebike and you use your old rotors. This is a 15 minute job to swap out your Sondors mechanical brakes to hydraulic ones.

  1. They should have these on Sondors already!

Posted by Chris on Sep 15th 2017

For the price, I find these to be the best solutions to a serious problem on the Sondors. Stopping power! The rotors, in my opinion are too small and cable brakes take forever to slow the bike. These brakes are incredible. They take minutes to install and provide excellent and reliable stopping. Definitely a must have.

  2. Just what I needed.

This is my second set of hydraulic disk brakes for the "fatties". Given the weight of the bike, and rider, this is an essential upgrade. Even with stock rotors, I can lock up the tires on dry pavement.

  3. Must have for the Sondors!

I won't go on and on, but suffice it to say that if you ride moderately aggressively, or just want to be safer, you owe it to yourself to upgrade the brakes. The difference is almost unbelievable. The squeals disappear instantly, and the lever pressure is very light and predictable. Oh yes, delivery even to Canada was quick. Well worth the investment!!!

  4. Shimano Hydraulic Disc Brake Set for Sondors

    Love'em!
    Worth the upgrade price.

What a huge difference between this set and the original!
Plus...the new pads, so far - no squeaks when applying breaks.

To hold the lines in place without disconnecting them, we got screws with nylon lock nuts from NAPA. They went through the brakes line guides on the bike.
We purchased them a bit longer so that a width of a zip tie would fit in and secured the new brake lines like that for now.

This set was easier to center and adjust by the rotors than the original one.

    Waiting for this::

In about -20C today, the brakes worked like a charm.

    Thank you.

  5. Mechanical Brakes Suck!

Posted by Mike K. on Jan 2nd 2017

The Tektro mechanical disc brakes are a disaster for disc brakes. Hydraulics disc are superior in ever way. Quitter, smoother braking, equal stopping power portion between front and rear, self adjusting, and one finger operation.

These Shimano brakes are great upgrade at a bargain price. This brake set is everthing expected from a more expensive Hydraulic system, and come with extra long motor inhibitor wires. The longer motor inhibitor wires will come into play when connecting a Luna's hotrod controller into the Sondors Thin (the stock cords are much shorter on the Thin, and will not reach the bottom positioned connections of either one of their hotrod controllers).

  6. Good stoppers

These hydraulic levers and disc calipers, combined with oversize rotors are amazing. An incredible upgrade for my Sondors. Couldn't be happier.

  7. Real stopping power

Posted by Steve on Jun 13th 2016

Nice product super easy to install one finger pull with real stopping power

  8. Nice, easy and stops with a gentle touch

Got to have these as I am pushing the weight limit on the Sondors. These work, install was simple and the results are worth it, the old brakes seemed to "drag" not these.

If you are going to hot rod the bike you want to be able to stop and these sure help.

  9. A must that worth the upgrade

Posted by Jeremy on Feb 27th 2016

Took me less than an hour to remove and install the new brake set. If you don't feel confident in installing these brakes just go to your local bike shop. From day one I never like the stock brake that came with the Sondors Ebike. They do brake but the feeling is not great and with the new brake set the lever finally feels smooth and it has the ebrake cut off. I bought it because I'm planing on using a 48v battery with the hot rod controller from Lunacycle. Please note that this is a reverse setup. Front brake is connected with the right lever and so on. 4.5/5 for that but still worth it !
