  • This chainring will NOT work on the BBS01 or BBS02

The biggest complaint we have heard about the awesome new BBSHD 1000W Bafang mid drive is it has an ugly, heavy chain ring.

Luna Cycles is not only the first dealer in the world to have the  BBSHD 1000W in stock (go here to buy), but now we are the first to offer an aftermarket chainring for the BBSHD.  Also we wanted to create a piece of art and to really make a statement that we are hear to raise the game.  We are so proud that this piece of art is created right here in California and we will never outsource it because California can do it better than China. They can copy us but then they suck.

This is a two piece unit and has everything you need to convert to a beautiful 42 tooth chain ring.

This comes stock with a 42 tooth sprocket, but it is a two piece and the sprocket can be changed out later for one of our other sizes.

We will be offering a full range from 40T to 56T chainrings which you can change out. As always expect top quality and our "can't be beat" pricing.

Note that the only chainring shown is straight polished alloy. Chainrings will also  be available in blue, black, red and these will be machined so that they will also have polished metal showing (see blue ring in pictures).

Changing from the old ring to our bling ring is a quick 5-10 minute job. Pull the crank off, then the old chainwheel and slap the new Eclipse ring and the crank arm back on.

 Support notes

If you do not clear the chainstay you can use a chainring spacer to back it off a bit (slightly longer chainring bolts may be needed, you can get these at your local hardware store)

See here for a comparison of this chainring to other chainrings

As seen in the comparison this chainring provides more offset than anything else on the market, to maximize the potential for the absolute best chainline and all the associated advantages that provides. This can sometimes be too much offset if you have a wide chainstay and it touches the chainstay. You can use our chainring spacers to move it away from the frame as much as needed (you can double or triple them up if you need to)

IMPORTANT: The recommended way to run this chainwheel on a single speed is with a chain tensioner. If you don't have a chain tensioner and the chain falls off you can't just put it on the cog then put it on the chainwheel and turn the crank. Because the chain has to wrap around the front of the chainwheel and it is so massively offset you will bend the chainwheel and/or bend or break teeth as the chain gets way too tight. Instead you must take the chain off the cog and put the chain on the eclipse chainring then put the top of the chain on the cog and gently roll the bike backwards, stopping if there is too much pressure. It should put the chain back on without bending the Luna eclipse chainring. If you have a single speed without a tensioner and try to reinstall the chain on the cog first your broken chainring (it will break) will not be covered under warranty.

  1. Must have for BBSHD motors

Posted by Sandy on Nov 10th 2017

Purchased this because of the good reviews and the stock chain ring just didn't seem to ride as smooth when pedalling. This was totally worth the money. Bike rides so much better now. I don't have a throttle installed yet but I assume it will work great with that as well.

I am fully happy of it. It is the only one which guarantees a perfect chainline in my Scott Big Ed fat bike equipped with a fantastic BBSHD. My only question is: when the 40T or less will be finally available? For singletrack bikers will be the final solution. Thanks

  3. Had a problem with a 52t chainring I had.

Posted by Sean Cronauer on Oct 22nd 2017

The old chainring was a 52t chainring and worked well in higher to mid gear, due to the offset I could not use gears 1-3 of 8 now I can use all gear levels.

  4. Dont fit any bike

Posted by Jorge on Oct 1st 2017

I have a mtb wich i bought in europe at decatlhon a big french franchise i've been using it for 2 years with a bbshd the chain its pretty bent but it still works
So i thought I could had fixed with the eclipse but sadly it touches the frame even with the spacer so it is pretty useless to me

    Response from Luna:
Hello please read the bottom of the description on the listing, if you need to back it off from hitting chainstay all you need is a chainring spacer, which you can double up or even triple if needed. As long as your bolts are long enough you can use as many spacers as needed to use the eclipse with any chainstay. We have linked to the chainring spacer on the listing.
Alternately you can use axle spacers as shown in the video in the documentation but chainring spacers are a more optimal solution.

  5. Great part

Posted by Pedward on Sep 4th 2017

Great part, bolted right on in 5 mins. I used 1 of the 3 mm spacers behind it which achieved perfect chain line. On my Sun Baja Cruz 7speed w/ 26 x 3.5 tires. With the stock chain ring, I was pedaling way to fast in top gear at around 25 mph. Changing to this 52 tooth, I can pedal much more comfortably in top gear (7th) around 25mph (pas level 3) on the flats and have even pedaled to about 32mph. Still easily climbs the steepest hills I encounter in 1st gear pas level 3 or 4 for the steepest. And this new chain ring looks pretty bad @ss on my bike too. I'm really starting to fall hard for Luna..

  6. Better chain line

Posted by Ken Wang on Jul 31st 2017

The offset made good chain line.

To save you some time on trial and error,
buy the spacer and prepare M5*20~M5*25 screws.
Attached M5*15 is too short if you put on spacer and spring washer.

    The teeth are quite long, and you may read "important" in description page;
Buy SRAM rear derailleur with cage lock feature,
and you could hook chain on this ring with bare hand.

  7. Essential piece for the BBSHD

Posted by Kevin on Jul 8th 2017

This chain ring looks really great and fixed the problems I had with chain alignment. Also vastly improved the gearing ratio over the stock ring. I was reasonably happy with the stock ring, but Luna ring made a huge improvement to how the bike pedaled. It is expensive, but an essential upgrade to the kit in my opinion.

  8. A must have for BSSHD

Posted by Unknown on Jun 24th 2017

It's a work of art. But it is not just the appearance, it fixed the chain line alignment, and 42T gives you torque advantage over stock one. So it's fully functional and simply looks beautiful.

  9. Beautiful and best possible chain line

Posted by Unknown on Jun 15th 2017

Great looking and fixed my chain line issues. Can't ask for more.

  10. The ring looks great and the chain has a much better line

Posted by Paco on Jun 4th 2017

I still have not been able to try the bike since my project is about to end but the chain line seems very good thanks

  11. Improve chain line and keep the chain more secure

Posted by Electricommute on Apr 17th 2017

Greater offset helps align the chain better on the BBSHD. Tall teeth and narrow-wide chainring along with the better chain line keeps the chain much more secure. As a bonus, you can add some color to your bike!

Note to Luna: Please list the actual offset of this chainring and the other options for the BBSHD.

  12. Nice

Posted by Mrstringer on Mar 31st 2017

Used with spacer, fixed chain line issue. BBSHD

  13. The perfect Chain alignment

Posted by TS on Feb 20th 2017

The eclipse fixed my chain alignment problem on my Montague Pro Paratrooper. I did use one 3.3mm spacer. This thing is a work of art.

  14. Astounding Design and Quality

Posted by Lee Placchi - New Mexico on Jan 21st 2017

Recently installed this work of art and engineering to the BBSHD on my 2013 DB Axis MTB in place of the stock steel chainring and...What an improvement! The drive lined up perfectly with the Luna spacer underneath, all I had to provide were some longer 5mm bolts. I've ridden almost 50 miles now and not once has the chain jumped off like it used to as these teeth are so aggressive. Worth every penny and HIGHLY recommended!!!

  15. Best Chainring for BBSHD

Posted by Jeff Ehl on Jan 18th 2017

This is by far the best chain-ring for the BBSHD! It makes the chain spacing more in line with upper gears on a 7 or 8 speed. Haven' t had a chain de-rail since using it.

Nice to be able to replace the sprocket portion once it wears out.

  16. Luna eclipse

Posted by Jay B.I. Hawaii on Jan 15th 2017

Awesome chain line! If you ride gnarly technical trail accents, this is money well spent. It'll help save the rest of your drivetrain. I'm running 10s setup, best ratios yet!

  17. Fixed my chain line issues

Posted by Michael on Nov 26th 2016

Having built by eBike conversion of a Minnesota 2.0 fat bike with a standard Luna 42t chainring, I found I couldn't use my lowest two gears without dropping the chain. The chain line was just too harsh to shift back up through the gears. So, I added the Luna Eclipse with it's additional offset. The swap took me less than 10 minutes and my chain line issues are gone. I can use all 9 of my rear gears and it just looks cooler than the other one.

  19. Fixed Chainline

Posted by Christopher Danley on Sep 22nd 2016

Bought the Eclipse to improve the chain line on my Specialized comp disc FSR bike with BBSHD drive. Worked and fit perfectly. I also bought the shim adapter but didn't need it. The Eclipse put the chain-line dead center relative to the rear cassette.

Quieter, no more losing the chain of the front sprocket, and smoother shifting.

  20. Easy fix to fix chain hopping

Posted by Unknown on Aug 29th 2016

I used the stock BBSHD frisbee chain ring. I had the chain come off especially on hills. I read posts suggesting the Luna Eclipse or Blekkie. I opted for the Eclipse cause it put the chain almost next to the motor providing the most offset for this size.

The installation was easy with the new screws provided. I added a drop of blue locktite just to be sure. The ring has been on for 7 rides so far no chain jumping issues. My top end speed went from 33 mph with the stock BBSHD ring to 30 mph with the Eclipse if that helps you.
