First off I am not new to ebikes. I own a 250w rear hub china brand Archeer (paid 450.00 and has lasted years, just under powered) and a 750w 7speed rear hub full suspension 4 inch tire fat home mtb.
I ordered the KHS 1000 4 season fusion from Luna with the off road watt controller. Here are my impressions:
KHS 4 season: 5 stars. Top notch mid level fat bike. The hyd brakes are awesome. The wheels and rims are super light. Quick release hubs. After taking it on 70 miles or so off road the last week I've decided I don't care for 4.9 inch tires and will size down to 4 inch after the rubber is worn out (too big and get in way on narrow single tracks).
Luna 2500w controller and motor: So far so good. More then enough power. Big jump up from my 750w. with peak 1000w rear hub. The 36t sprocket is a good match to the khs 10 speed. Lots of TQ
The 52v 17.5ah battery: Isn't a great fit for 2500w (can't sustain it and will shorten battery life and sales told me this). Regardless though I'm happy with it. Enough power to 100% throttle up descent incline hills of 15% or so (not recomended for longevity of motor/controller IMO). The battery really has some good range. I did 17 miles pas 1 to 2 at 12mph on a paved trail with my 260lb and pulling 50lb of kid in a trailer plus 10 miles at past 3 to 9 off road (just me) today and had 65% battery left (read 53v).
I recommend the derailer sensor. Worth the 50 bucks. Will add life to your derailer with peak 2500w of power hitting it.
DCP18: good display but not great. Changes pas very quick and looks pretty but watts is so small it's impossible to really keep track of. Quick pas change, bright display though. Happy with choice with options at this time
Luna service: So for 4 to 5 stars
Pros: they built and shipped bike in 2 wks. A+. They respond to emails within 24hrs. They fixed minor issues I had and were helpful. The bike is powerful.
Cons: The bike was shipped without the plug adapter to charge and Luna took almost 2 weeks to get it to me, I'm in WA and they are in California (I'd have preferred 2 day priority USPS since I was without it's use until I got it). I'd call this level of service average or adequate but not exceptional. The bike was shipped without directions, yes it was easy to assemble and came 98% together but still (I emailed customer service who sent me the online battery 1st use instructions ect, but still a sheet of paper with a link or a card would have been a nice touch to have in the box). Also the motor to battery plug was wired a wee bit short and keeps coming unplugged. Not a big deal and I patched the issue with a zip tie but a builder mistake (Luna is sending me a new pigtail so I can fix it so it's not pulled so tight by added some length).
All in all though I'm a DIY type of guy and don't mind fixing issues myself. Often enjoy doing so actually. So with the bikes power, display, khs frame and then with Luna working to fix issues for me is enough for me to rate them 5 stars. Just be aware the bikes are not as polished as some pre builts, but for the price and parts quality level it's well worth a little extra hassle IMO.
