You guys asked for it and you got it. A 72v version of the Talaria Sting... offering 45 percent more power over the MX4 and all the excitement, power and speed of many of the super expensive after market custom build emotos that have been swarming the scene. Talaria has been in the power sport business for over 10 years and quickly grew to become the performance leader in the sport eBike segment.  With cutting edge performance, leading reliability, and continuous product improvements, this latest release is the culmination of all of these elements combined into one.  Performance means nothing without reliability, and Talaria has grown a reputation in the industry for being the leader in reliable and safe performance.

The MX5 has been revised from the ground up, incorporating many upgrades and improvements based on customer feedback and distributor recommendations.  Significantly improved performance, while maintaining smooth predictable power delivery.  Whether new to the sport eBike scene, or a seasoned veteran, the MX5 guarantees performance and reliability like nobody has delivered until now.

 Improved braking system

mx5-brakes.png

Due to the increased performance of the MX5, Talaria revisited the brake system design and made various improvements to ensure reliable performance and safety.  Both front and rear calipers and rotors have been oversized, now 220x3.0 MM rotors.  This gives the MX5 roughly 20% more stopping power and heat dissipation.  The calipers are gigantic which offer incredible stopping power even at high speeds. The brake pads have been upgraded to almost twice the size of the MX4!  They are made from an advanced compound made by Talaria specifically for this bike. This makes an incredible difference in stopping power, smooth brake operation, brake longevity, and braking reliability.

A new feature for Talaria exclusive to the MX5 that we really love, variable regenerative braking on demand.  Not only does it have 4 selectable levels of regen, for the first time in the Talaria line-up, they have included a secondary variable thumb-actuated variable regen lever.  This acts similar to a braking lever, but smoothly controls the level of regen you want on demand.  The harder you push, the more regenerative braking is engaged… without issues of over heating your rotors, increasing efficiency and range, while also preserving your mechanical braking system.  Until now, variable regenerative braking was a feature only seen on high-end custom bikes with aftermarket controllers, now a standard feature on the MX5.

More Efficient and Reliable IPM Motor

This is an IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) motor with bigger and better magnets than ever before and a better cooling system than before. This means better efficiency, better heat dissipation, and most importantly much more reliability than the previous motor.  Magnets coming loose or demagnetized and hall sensors coming loose were the biggest causes of motor failure in the Sting/Surron.  This motor also includes a magnetic encoder which removes the need for hall sensors.

If you ever upgrade this bike with a more powerful controller this motor will handle much more power than the previous motor, and because it is more efficient you will get more power out of it. This motor will do higher RPMs than the older motors as well, and will give you a more robust power curve. It is 95% efficient which is the most efficient talaria motor ever… more efficient equates to even more power and more range in a small electric vehicle like the MX5.

72v Battery

For the first time in a Talaria eBike, they have upgraded the system voltage from 60V to 72V.  This allows for increased torque, increased speed, and cooler motor operation.

The battery is 40Ah 72v (2880 Watt hours) constructed with high performance Samsung 50s 21700 (5000mah) cells that do not compromise when it comes to putting out the high power this bike needs. Although the battery is less ah then many of the bikes on the market, when you consider its a 72v battery the watt hours are 2880 making it the largest battery available in this size of bike. If you look at the review video down below you will see this bike has among the longest ranges for a bike in this class.

Advanced 72v Charger

We usually do not make a section in our product adds for a charger.  That is because these ebike factories usually  use the smallest cheapest charger they can use.  Talaria has done the opposite and is including a 15amp 72 volt charger which is top of its class for power, ruggedness, and safety.  This charger can easily charge the huge MX5 battery from completely empty to  completely full in less than 3 hours.  For a 28880 watt hour battery its important to have a more powerful charger. It is a smart charger that communicates with the battery while charging and will shut down automatically if the battery detects anything wrong and of course it will also automatically shut down when the battery reaches full charge. It also slows down (lowers. amps) charging as the battery reaches full capacity to not compromise your batteries longevity.   It is 1200 watts which maximizes what most 110 household circuits can put out. This 72v charger alone would cost over $400 in the aftermarket. We are very impressed with the quality of this charger and it is by far the highest quality unit we have seen come standard with a production bike.

Display

One of our favorite new features of this bike is its full colored display. This display is easy to read both day and night. Because of the color coding its super easy to tell which one of the three levels you are in for example. The display is small (which we love) but also fully featured. With as good as this display works we dont think it is necessary any longer to have a cell phone sized display on your handlebars. This small cool looking display really does it all. You have 3 levels of power (eco, sport and hyper) and 4 levels of regen. The interface and large tactile buttons make it a breeze to change modes while riding. This is by far our favorite display we have ever seen on a production bike.

Suspension

The MX5 has its own Talaria Factory Suspension that was designed specifically for this bike. The standard suspension has been revised to take the increased power and weight.  The Talaria factory rear shock is now stiffer with a 550-850 lbs/inch progressive spring which includes compression and rebound adjustments .  The Talaria factory front fork is air-adjustable and includes an internal double-spring arrangement with compression, rebound, and preload adjustments.

mx5-rear-suspension.png

Gearbox

The Talaria MX5 uses a new and improved gearbox for its gear reduction with thickened mounts and reinforced gears.  This makes the Talaria Sting significantly more quiet and also more reliable (no broken belts) than Surron.  No more breaking belts or slipping belts, which will eventually break and possibly leave you stranded.  The gearbox in the MX4 was the most reliable component on the bike with very little failures. The MX5 gearbox is even more robust to handle the increased power this bike is designed to deliver.
